My starting point for most stat lines is that conscripts/poor quality troops are at a 6+ line troops are working from a 5+, good troops are at a 4+ and heroes and some large monsters or artillery might be a 3+. Most weapons and saving throws deviate from a 3+ to a 5+ with the occasional 6+. There is actually not a great deal of variation in statistics if you look closely at the Age of Sigmar Warscrolls. I am making the warscrolls available for free and will post them on this page. Any suggestions at any time are gratefully received! Of course, this means coming up with warscrolls (which don't vary that much in AoS) but also the giving of specialist rules for each type of unit. My idea is to take inspiration from the war scrolls already put out by GW for its legacy fantasy armies and adapt them to the armies and peoples of Middle Earth. I also like the fact that the Age of Sigmar Rules are scalable - from small skirmishes to quite large clashes. The other advantage to using LOTR is that they already are on round bases which is perfect for the Age of Sigmar rules. For me, I always preferred the Aesthetic of the LOTR lines over GW's fantasy range - although perhaps I've been tempted by two of the most LOTR aesthetic types - High Elves and Vampire Counts. However a few games of Age of Sigmar at my local GW shop have enthused me to the possibilities of resurrecting my LOTR collection (and maybe tempt me to get some Hobbit figures also). Although I have played a few games of LOTR with my children. But as opponents dwindled and the Hobbit system somewhat fizzled, they've been sat largely unused for a while now. I thought they were beautifully done, easy to put together and tied in with the films (if not always the books) perfectly. I was always a fan of the Lords of the Rings (OTR) figures produced by Games Workshop.
